Alaska State Police say 48-year-old Alfred C. Benz, who had worked in the Georgetown Provost’s Office since graduating from the university in 2007, was in Alaska to attend a friend’s wedding.
Police investigate potential drowning
Leesburg police on Monday were still investigating a possible drowning reported Sunday.
A caller told police about 11:40 a.m. Sunday that he saw a man calling for help from a drainage pond west of the Leesburg Bypass and south of Battlefield Parkway. The man then went silent, the caller said, according to Leesburg Police.
Police could not see anyone in the water when they arrived and there were no witnesses on site who had seen the man, police said. The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office dive team assisted.
Police are still trying to confirm whether a drowning actually occurred.
