A former assistant coach for a Prince George’s County swim team is under investigation for child pornography and enticing a minor, according to court documents.
Federal authorities want to search computers and other media belonging to Allen L. Miller, who was a coach for the Pride swim team run by the county Parks and Recreation Department.
The electronics were seized earlier this year by Prince George’s County police.
Authorities said they believe Miller, 24, had sexual relations with a 15-year-old swimmer on his team and exchanged sexual text messages and nude photographs with her, according to an affidavit supporting the government’s application for a search warrant.
The girl told the Prince George’s County Department of Social Services that Miller was the assistant coach for the Pride team when she met him in about June 2009.
That summer, “their friendly relationship became sexual,” according to the affidavit, and the pair exchanged sexual text messages, photos and videos.
The girl also said the two had sex at Miller’s home in Lanham, the affidavit says.
Miller’s employment with the Parks and Recreation Department was terminated in October 2009, said Anita Pesses, a spokeswoman for the department. He had worked there since May 2005.
Pesses said the department could not comment further on an ongoing investigation.
Miller could not be reached for comment.
The investigation began when the girl’s mother found sexual messages between her daughter and Miller on the teen’s cell phone in September 2009.
Miller was interviewed by the Maryland National-Capital Park Police that month. According to the affidavit, he said he believed the girl was 16 or 17.
He also admitted exchanging sexually explicit pictures and messages with the girl, the affidavit says.
Prince George’s County police seized computers, external hard drives, storage media, cell phones and a digital camera from his home in March.
The items have been in law enforcement custody since that time.
No charges were filed in Prince George’s County, and it wasn’t clear Monday why the case moved to federal court.
Miller has no previous criminal convictions, according to the application for the Prince George’s County search warrant.
The federal affidavit was filed Friday in U.S. District Court in Greenbelt.
The investigation into Miller’s behavior comes as swimming coaches across the country have been banned for sexual misconduct with their athletes. USA Swimming has banned dozens of coaches for molesting and secretly taping swimmers.
