A North Carolina man was indicted Thursday on federal charges in an assault against the Gabonese ambassador and two arsons at the embassy in downtown Washington.
Leon Obame, 44, has been in custody since his arrest Dec. 9, when authorities say he struck and bloodied Ambassador Michael Moussa-Adamo during a demonstration outside the temporary embassy at 1630 Connecticut Ave. NW.

The indictment includes two new counts each of arson and damage to property occupied by a foreign government.
Prosecutors said Obame is responsible for setting fires to the embassy in the 2000 block of 20th Street NW on Aug. 30 2009 and on Dec. 25, 2009. No one was injured in the fires.
