The Maryland Access to Justice Commission is trying to help people involved in civil lawsuits learn how to find low-cost legal options. The commission is distributing a series of posters that provide information, phone numbers and Web sites that people involved in foreclosure, debt collection, divorce and other civil proceedings can use to learn about the courts and legal resources.
“Marylanders don’t have a constitutional right to a free lawyer in civil cases, but there are free or low-cost legal help options available, and we are trying to get that message out,” said Irma S. Raker, a retired Maryland Court of Appeals judge and the commission’s chairwoman.
People and organizations can view and order posters at mdcourts.gov/mdatjc.
