Silver Spring man get 14 years for date rape drug

A 41-year-old man was sentenced to 14 years in prison for possessing 23 gallons of a date rape drug in his Silver Spring home, prosecutors said.

 

Steven Hess’ home was raided in January 2007 after Montgomery County police received reports of people coming in and out his house “at all hours of the day and night,” federal prosecutors in Maryland said. Inside authorities found 23 gallons of 1,4-butanediol dyed blue in plastic drinking bottles for distribution. The drug is similar to GHB, which is commonly known as the date rape drug.

 

 

Second guilty plea in bank robbery that led to chase, gunfire

A Silver Spring man pleaded guilty to shooting a Bank of America teller in the hand before fleeing the Clarksville bank and leading police on a chase that ended in Montgomery County with one of his co-conspirators dying in a hail of gunfire.

 

Anirudh Lakhan Sukhu, 52, robbed the bank with two other men in November. The getaway driver pleaded guilty earlier this month. Omar Burnett of Burtonsville was killed in a shootout with police.

 

 

$2 million ID theft ringleader pleads guilty

A 52-year-old Waldorf man pleaded guilty to running a $2 million nationwide identity theft ring, prosecutors said. Clyde Gray Jr. admitted to paying pickpockets to steal personal identification information from victims and then used that to make fake IDs, federal prosecutors in Virginia said. Gray then used those IDs to impersonate the victims and empty their bank accounts. The victims spanned the country, including several in the Washington area and California.

 

 

Pair arrested in theft of cameras

A 37-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman have been accused of stealing cameras from Rockville stores, Montgomery County police said. Robert Francis Johnson and Eang Lynn Whiting are believed to have conspired to steal the cameras from a Ritz Camera and Penn Camera in late May and mid-June, police said.
