Elementary student dies A student died Monday at a Prince George’s County elementary school, a fire department spokesman said.

Medical crews were called to J. Frank Dent Elementary School in Fort Washington around 10 a.m. for a report of a student experiencing difficulty breathing, Prince George’s County Fire and Rescue spokesman Mark Brady said. Paramedics performed CPR on the student and took the pre-teen girl to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead, officials said.

School officials sent a letter home to parents saying that no other students were in danger and the death was accidental. The letter did not go into further detail.

Prince George’s County police are investigating as routine matter.

Postmaster sentenced for theft of stamps

A former Charles County postmaster was sentenced to nine months in prison for stealing $60,000 worth of stamps from the Marbury Post Office. Prosecutor said Gilbert Ennis, 56, of Lanham, called the sheriff’s office to report that he had been had been robbed by a gunman while he was along at the post office. Ennis told the sheriff and the postal inspector that a green box in the safe containing more than $50,000 in postal stamp stock was stolen. Investigators began to doubt Ennis’ robbery report when they found in Ennis’ car a green box identical to the one reported stolen.

Police chief’s cars shot

Two cars used by outgoing Prince George’s County Police Chief Roberto Hylton have been shot at in recent weeks, a department spokesperson said. Hylton’s cars were parked in the chief’s spots at police headquarters when they were shot with what appeared to be a BB gun, Maj. Andy Ellis said. The shootings happened last month. One car was shot in the rear window, and an another was shot in a passenger door, he said.
