New hearing for man accused of attempting to blow up recruiting station

A man accused of attempting to blow up the Armed Services Career Center in Catonsville will have a rearraignment hearing on Thursday in Baltimore, officials said. Rearraignments often occur when there is a change of plea.

Antonio Martinez, also known as Muhammad Hussain, was indicted by a grand jury in Maryland’s U.S. District Court in December 2010 on one count of attempted murder of federal officers and employees and one count of attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction.

Martinez was arrested after authorities said he tried to detonate what he thought were explosives in a parked vehicle at the Armed Services Career Center, a recruiting station. However, the explosives turned out to be fake and part of a federal sting.

Martinez has pleaded not guilty to both counts, a U.S. Attorney’s Office spokeswoman said.
