Man shot to death in P.G.

 

A man was fatally shot Thursday afternoon at a playground near a Hillcrest Heights apartment complex, according to Prince George’s County police.

Cpl. Henry Tippett, a police spokesman, said the man was found at about 3:30 p.m. at the complex on the 4700 block of 23rd Parkway. He was taken to a hospital, where he died, Tippett said.

Tippett said officers responded to the area for a report of a shooting. The circumstances of the shooting weren’t immediately clear.

The man’s name has not been released. Tippett said no suspects have been identified in the slaying.

Falls Church man faces sexual battery charge

A Falls Church man is accused of inappropriately touching young girls at his home.

Falls Church police said 47-year-old Michael A. Gardner is charged with two counts of aggravated sexual battery and one count of object sexual penetration after girls reported to police that Gardner “had inappropriate physical contact” with them last weekend.

According to public records, Michael Gardner has the same address as Robin S. Gardner, a city councilwoman and former mayor. Robin Gardner’s council biography and news articles list a Michael Gardner as her husband.

A city spokeswoman declined to comment Thursday and no one answered the phone at their residence.

Pedestrian killed in Fairfax

A 60-year-old man died after he was hit by a car crossing a street in Hybla Valley.

Fairfax County police said Robert Berry was crossing Richmond Highway near Arlington Drive when he was struck by a Nissan Rogue at about 11:20 p.m. Wednesday.

Berry wasn’t in a crosswalk when the crash happened.

Berry was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
