‘Hundreds’ of tips received in Harrington case

Police say tips have poured in since authorities learned a year ago that DNA evidence links the slaying of Virginia Tech student Morgan Harrington and a Fairfax City sexual assault, but both cases remain unsolved.

Virginia State Police said investigators have received hundreds of tips since releasing a composite sketch of the sexual assault suspect last July.

The sketch depicts the man who abducted and robbed a 26-year-old woman in Fairfax in 2005.

DNA evidence obtained in the case has been linked to Harrington’s death. Harrington, 20, went missing after an October 2009 concert and her body was found on a farm in January 2010. Her death is being investigated as a homicide.

Anyone with information can call police at 703-385-7959 or 434-352-3467, or Crime Stoppers at 434-977-4000.
