The FBI has released revised sketches of a man linked to the slaying of a Virginia Tech student and the sexual assault of a woman in Fairfax City.
The unidentified man has been connected to the two cases through DNA evidence, authorities said.
Virginia Tech student Morgan Harrington, 20, was last seen on Oct. 17, 2009 at a Metallica concert at the University of Virginia. Her remains were discovered on a farm in Albemarle County in January 2010, authorities said.
The sexual assault the suspect is tied to occurred on Sept. 24, 2005. A 26-year-old woman was grabbed from behind, carried to a pool/park area and sexually assaulted, according to the FBI.
The suspect is described as a black male, 25 to 35 years old, 5 feet 9 nine inches to 6 feet tall, and 180 to 220 pounds. He may have altered his appearance since the 2005 sexual assault.
Gil Harrington, Morgan Harrington’s mother, told The Roanoke Times that the new images are “more realistic.” The original sketch was released in 2005, and the new images were posted Sunday on the Facebook page of Help Save The Next Girl, a campaign created by Morgan Harrington’s parents.
