Four D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Service members have been placed on administrative leave after officials discovered that two ambulances have been taken out of their primary service areas for hours at a time, officials said.
Fire Chief Dennis Rubin called the actions “extreme dereliction of duty.” The department will seek the ambulance crews’ termination, Rubin said.
On July 24, a crew in Ambulance 10, stationed near Gallaudet University, spent up to seven hours in upper Northwest Washington. On July 11, Ambulance 33, which operates out of Southeast, was absent from its primary coverage area and in the upper Northwest area for more than two hours.
