Suspect arrested in attack on elderly woman

 

Prince George’s County police arrested the suspect accused of injuring a 71-year-old woman in a purse-snatching in District Heights. Capt. Raphael Grant said residents in Suitland provided information that the suspect, 32-year-old Jonah Salih-Khalil Iman, frequented the Silver Hill Corridor area. Police focused on the area, and a patrol officer came across Iman walking along Silver Hill Road, about a mile from the attack last week. He was charged with armed robbery and assault. Police said Iman grabbed the woman’s purse, which was slung over her arm, causing her to fall over at the Cigarette Discount Store on the 5700 block of Silver Hill Road last week. The woman suffered fractures to her kneecap, as well as a broken finger and bruised ribs.

 

Student charged in Bowie High School fire

A 15-year-old Bowie High School student has been charged with arson for allegedly setting a fire inside a school bathroom. The blaze was set in a trash can in a second-floor bathroom Monday, according to Prince George’s County Fire and Emergency Medical Services. The fire department said a 15-year-old boy was charged with arson and reckless endangerment. His name was not released because he is a juvenile. The boy was arrested and released to his parents’ custody Monday.

Four hurt in warehouse explosion

Four people were injured when a generator battery exploded at a warehouse in Northeast Washington, authorities said. D.C. fire department spokesman Pete Piringer says firefighter were called to a D.C. Department of Public Works building on the 2800 block of New York Avenue around 8 a.m. He said an industrial battery malfunctioned and exploded while renovations were being done.
