Fred Timothy Hall struck a 2008 Toyota Camry from behind as it turned onto Lee Highway from Buckley’s Gate Manor. The 17-year-old driver of the Camry suffered minor injuries, but Hall was thrown from his bike and died at the scene. Police believe the motorcycle’s speed was a factor in the crash.

Smoke clears out Gaithersburg Hilton

Guests at a Hilton hotel in Gaithersburg got an early wake-up call Sunday morning when an electrical fire filled several floors with smoke, according to the Montgomery County Fire Department.

The fire department was called to the hotel on Perry Parkway at about 7:28 a.m. for a report of smoke on the sixth floor, according to Assistant Fire Chief Scott Graham. The smell of smoke had drifted to the fifth and seventh floors, as well.

Hotel guests were evacuated and some guests with disabilities had to be escorted out, he said.

A problem with the wiring of an ice machine or vending machine apparently was to blame, he said.
