Man sentenced for sex abuse at school, robbery attempt of cop

A District man was sentenced to a year behind bars for sexually assaulting an elementary school student and attempting to rob an undercover officer at a Metro station.

Davon Rashad Wood, 21, pleaded guilty earlier this year to attempted second-degree child sexual abuse and attempted robbery. The cases were unrelated.

On Feb. 1, Wood told a teacher’s aide at Ketcham Elementary School he was looking for a child.

The teacher’s aide asked an 11-year-old student to escort Wood to the classroom upstairs. On their way, Wood hugged the girl from behind, then reached down and groped her buttocks.

On Dec. 7, Wood swiped $20 from the pocket of a man who appeared to be sleeping on the platform at the Congress Heights Metro Station. The “victim” was actually an undercover Metro Transit Police officer.
