Man suspected in several armed MontCo robberies

Police and the FBI are searching for a man who might be involved in several armed bank robberies in Montgomery County. The most recent occurred on Nov. 16 at about 11:15 a.m. at the M&T Bank located on 11161 New Hampshire Ave. in the White Oak area of Silver Spring.

Montgomery County police detectives said the suspect entered the bank and pointed a handgun at the teller. The man demanded and obtained an undisclosed amount of money, then fled the bank by bicycle toward Lockwood Drive. No injuries were reported.

Investigators believe this man might be linked to a previous robbery at the same bank Oct. 14, in addition to three other robberies.

The first robbery was at the Sovereign Bank located at 17920 Georgia Ave. in Olney on the afternoon of July 2. The suspect implied he had a handgun and demanded an undisclosed amount of cash from the teller. The man fled by foot toward Morningwood Drive.

The second robbery occurred on Sept. 1 at the same Sovereign branch in Olney shortly after 3 p.m. The man entered the bank and displayed a handgun. He obtained an undisclosed amount of money, then fled the scene by foot.

The third — and most violent ?– was at the Wachovia Bank branch at 16810 Georgia Avenue in Olney on the morning of Oct. 30. The suspect entered the bank, pointed a handgun at the teller and demanded cash. He struck the teller with his gun before taking an undisclosed amount of cash and running out. The teller was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Police describe the suspect as a light-complected black man between 5 feet 8 inches and 6 feet 2 inches and 25 to 35 years old. He was last seen wearing a black ski mask, sunglasses, a black baseball cap and a black denim jacket.

Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of $1,000 or more for information provided to it that leads to an arrest or indictment for this felony crime.
