Dozens of people have been displaced after a pipe leak forced an evacuation at a senior apartment complex in Woodbridge.
Prince William County Fire and Rescue officials said a broken hot water pipe was discovered at the River Run apartments, located at 13900 Hedgewood Drive, at about 10 p.m. Monday. The broken pipe caused flooding and other damage to rooms and corridors on the first and second floors.
Authorities said the American Red Cross is helping the 50 residents and 20 pets displaced with shelter; the Red Cross brought in trailers and set up a temporary shelter at a recreation center Monday night.
The building has been deemed unsafe while repairs are being made because it lacks heat, electricity and clean water.
