Firefighters were taken to a clinic Wednesday evening after they felt ill following a fire, officials said.
Eight firefighters were taken to the clinic after they complained of symptoms about 8:30 p.m., the Associated Press reported. The firefighters had fought a fire in the 3700 block of Hayes Street NE earlier in the day.
Ed Smith, president of the D.C. firefighters union, said the firefighters complained of symptoms like being lightheaded and having headaches. He added that the illness may have occurred because there may have been a drug lab at the fire’s location.
