Two District teenagers were convicted Tuesday of first-degree murder for killing a man during a robbery of a dice game in Southeast Washington.
Aaron Andrews, 19, and Curtis Weeks, 18, faces maximum sentences of life in prison at their sentencing Sept. 9.
According to prosecutors, Andrews and Weeks noticed the game in the parking lot in the 1100 block of Eaton Road SE, and returned with guns and announced the robbery. One of the players started to run, and Andrews shot him in the stomach. Reggie Cook, 20, ran to his friend’s aid and got into a struggle over Andrews’ gun. Weeks then shot Cook in the chin, killing him.
P.G. police solve cold case
Prince George’s County police arrested a 41-year-old man in a decade-old homicide in Upper Marlboro.
Police charged Billy Joe Simon with the murder of 27-year-old Michael Neal, who was found dead inside his home on June 10, 2001. Police believe he was killed in a home robbery and Neal knew his killer.
Through forensics evidence, detectives developed Simon as a suspect and a warrant was obtained for his arrest last week. Police found Simon on the 2600 block of Marbury Drive in District Heights and took him into custody without incident. He is being held without bond.
Police are looking into the possibility that another person was also involved in the slaying.
