Three years ago, Eric Michael Cunningham and another man jumped a jogger in the 2400 block of Champlain Street in Northwest Washington, punched him around the head and snatched his iPod, police said. The iPod was sold two hours later at a CD store on 18th Street NW.
Cunningham was convicted for the robbery and assault, but violated his probation, marshals said. A warrant was issued for his arrest in March. He has been missing since.
“A crime like this could potentially affect the victim’s sense of security and freedom for their entire lifetime,” said Rob Fernandez, commander of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force. “Anyone who would physically assault and rob a lone jogger is not someone we want loose in the community.”
Marshals are asking the public for information that could lead to the arrest of Cunningham.
He is described as being 5-feet-11 and 160 pounds with shoulder-length dreadlocks.
Cunningham’s last known residence was in Northwest Washington. Cunningham, 22, has an arrest history of burglary, robbery and dealing in stolen goods, most of which took place around the Marie Reed School at Champlain and 18th streets NW, marshals said.
Anyone with information on Cunningham’s whereabouts can call the U.S. Marshals Service at 800-336-0102.
The Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, run by the U.S. Marshals Service, is composed of 30 federal, state and local agencies from Baltimore to Norfolk. The Unit has captured more than 29,000 wanted fugitives since its creation in 2004.
