Teens charged for trying to form new gang

Three teenage boys have been charged with hazing of youth gang members after Fairfax County police say they repeatedly tried to form a gang at Poe Middle School in Annandale last fall. The two 14-year-olds and one 13-year-old allegedly distributed gang materials on school grounds and set up a MySpace page to recruit gang members, police said. After a series of assaults at a party in Annandale, police said they were able to determine the fledgling gang’s leaders and they officially charged them on Tuesday. They face spending up to one year in a juvenile facility and a paying a $2,500 fine.



Va. legislator introduces marijuana decriminalization bill

A Virginia Republican delegate has introduced legislation to decriminalize small amounts of marijuana and set up a a medical marijuana distribution system. Del. Harvey Morgan’s bill would allow pharmacists to dispense marijuana after it has been prescribed by a doctor. Doctors are already allowed to prescribe the drug for certain illnesses, but there’s no distribution system. It would also make possession of small amounts of marijuana a civil offense and increase the quantities a person can posses before it’s considered dealing.

Two killed in Montgomery County crashes

Montgomery County police are investigating two separate fatal crashes. David W. Epp, 24, of Bethesda, was killed early Wednesday morning when his vehicle ran off the road and struck a utility pole in the 5300 block of Bradley Boulevard. He was taken to a hospital where he died. Less than two hours earlier, in Poolesville, a 2009 Harley Davidson drove off the roadway in the 13000 block of Whites Ferry Road and struck a tree. The victim, Daren F. Klosterman, 46, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Flasher haunts Arlington bike trail

Arlington County police say a man exposed himself to five different women along the Washington and Old Dominion bike trail last week. Police have increased patrols and are warning women not to travel on the trail alone. Anyone with information should call Arlington County police at 703-228-4243.
