Teen killed in NE as multiple shootings hit city

Police responding to a report of a shooting late Saturday night found 16-year-old Dezmine Perkins suffering from multiple gunshot wounds on the 500 block of Edgewood Street NE. Perkins was later pronounced dead at a local hospital, police said. There were four other shootings in the District late Saturday and Sunday, in which a total of six people were injured. All the shootings were thought to be unrelated, police said.

Man shot to death amid raft of Pr. George’s firefights

A man was shot to death outside of a Popeye’s restaurant in Upper Marlboro early Sunday, according to Prince George’s County Police. Police said they had no initial suspects for the slaying. There was also a double shooting Sunday afternoon in Brandywine in which one suspect was taken into custody, police said. One individual was in critical condition shortly after the shooting, and another individual suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Police seek gunman in Bethesda shooting

Montgomery County police are looking for the culprit in the shooting of a man in Bethesda early Sunday. Police said a 59-year-old man was shot near the intersection of River and Ridgefield roads. The alleged shooter, police said, is a black man in his 20s who was wearing a camouflage jacket. There was no known motive for the shooting, police said.

Woman sexually assaulted on Rock Creek Trail

A woman was sexually assaulted Saturday on Rock Creek Trail, U.S. Park Police said. Police said the man was armed with a knife, and the woman fought back and stabbed him in the hand. The assailant was riding a mountain bike when he attacked the woman, police said.

Kidnapper gets 10 years

A D.C. man convicted of kidnapping a Clinton woman and her family was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Prince George’s County prosecutors had asked for 31 years behind bars for Yohannes Surafel, 25, an engineer, who was convicted of holding a bank worker, her husband and her two children hostage in a plot to rob a blank. The plot failed on the way to the bank after the father swerved the car in front of a Maryland state trooper, then overpowered Surafel.
