Md. man killed in D.C.
A Fort Washington man was killed early Saturday in a shooting in the District. D.C. police said 32-year-old David A. Matthews was suffering from gunshot wounds when he was found on the 5600 block of North Capitol Street NW at about 12:30 a.m. Investigators later determined the shooting took place a block away, on the unit block of Longfellow Street NW, police said.
Matthews was taken to a hospital, where he died.
No arrests have been made in the case.
Lightning strike damages Va. home
An Alexandria home was badly damaged when it was struck by lightning.
The Alexandria fire department said the house on the 200 block of Park Road caught fire after it was hit at about 12:20 a.m. Friday. The lightning struck a chimney, then ignited parts of the three-story home as it traveled through the interior walls.
One person was home at the time of the blaze and escaped without harm after a smoke a alarm went off.
Fire officials said the fire caused about $300,000 in damage to the home.
Probe continues into child’s death
Authorities are continuing to investigate the death of a child found in a Bristow-area minivan on Friday.
Prince William County police said Ryan Murphy, who would have turned three next month, was found unresponsive in his family’s van at at their home on the 12000 block of Gentle Shade Drive at about 4:15 p.m.
Ryan was last seen alive at about 9 a.m. Friday. When his mother discovered him in the van, she called 911, police said. His parents’ names weren’t released.
First Sgt. Kim Chinn, a Prince William County police spokeswoman, said Saturday that the death is still under investigation though no charges have been filed.
