A dog was rescued from a house fire in Oxon Hill Saturday night.
Firefighters arrived at a two-story home on the 7900 block of Barrett Road East just after 8 p.m. Saturday night to find the first and second floors ablaze. Firefighters had to employ large amounts of water, causing the roof to collapse, said Prince George’s County Fire Department spokesman Mark Brady.
After about 30 minutes, firefighters heard a dog barking, which they traced to the house’s basement. They were able to rescue Bishop, a Jack Russell Terrier, which Brady called “remarkable” since the house had been reduced to a burned out shell.
The homeowner’s other two dogs were not as lucky, however. No people were injured.
Firefighters believe the fire was caused by a faulty electrical outlet. Damage is estimated at $250,000.
