Pro boxer convicted of beating wife

A Suitland boxer was found guilty of first-degree assault for strangling and repeatedly punching his wife after she hugged another man at a nightclub, according to Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Angela Alsobrooks. Seven months after the assault, the wife, 31-year-old Theresa Evans, was shot dead outside her home while getting in her car for work. No arrests have been made in the Evans death and police are still investigating.

For the assault at the nightclub, Ronald Dion Boyd, 31, faces up to 25 years in prison at his sentencing June 3.

Boyd, 41, a lightweight boxer whose nickname is Teflon, had a professional record of six wins and 11 losses as of 2010, according to www.fightsrec.com.
