Dogs search for Md. woman missing in Aruba

Aruban authorities brought in a team of cadaver dogs to search the Caribbean island for the body of a Frederick woman who has been missing since August.

The dogs from the Netherlands are expected to remain on the island through the end of the week to search for 35-year-old Robyn Gardner, an Aruban prosecutor told the Associated Press.

Gardner’s traveling companion, 50-year-old Gary Giordano, of Gaithersburg, has been detained in connection with her disappearance since Aug. 5. He claims Gardner disappeared at sea while the two were snorkeling.

D.C. tax preparer guilty in $14m fraud scheme

A District tax preparer has pleaded guilty in a fraud scheme that prosecutors say resulted in $14 million in fraudulent refunds.

Ladonna Davis, 28, pleaded guilty in federal court in the District. Court records say she and other employees at 2FT Fast Facts Tax Service filed more than 3,000 fraudulent federal income tax returns and 665 fraudulent D.C. returns. Court records say they filed returns that listed fake businesses, itemized deductions and credits, which caused the clients’ taxable income to be “grossly understated.”
