A Temple Hills man was sentenced Thursday to nine years in prison for robbing a laundromat of $13. Juamal Samuel Carroll, 22, pleaded guilty to robbery and using a gun during a robbery. “The danger of an armed robbery is not measured by how much money is stolen,” said U.S. Attorney for Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein. Carroll and a co-conspirator entered No Rulez Laundromat in Glenarden and pointed a loaded shotgun at employee, authorities said. The duo took $13 from the employee and fled in van and led police on a high-speed chase.

Insider trading suspect gets 1 year for child porn

A Gaithersburg man was sentenced to a year in prison for possession of child pornography found on his computer during a federal investigation of insider trading. Andrew Liang, 26, of Gaithersburg, downloaded at least nine child pornography videos from the Internet and saved them to his computer, beginning in 2009, according to his plea agreement. The girls in the videos were as young as 4 years old, prosecutors said. Law enforcement discovered the videos when federal investigators searched his home and car in March. Liang was being investigated for insider trading along with his father, Cheng Yi Liang, a scientist at the Food and Drug Administration research center in Silver Spring. The father pleaded guilt to securities fraud and making false statements.
