The D.C. police detective who was caught on video pulling out a handgun during a snowball fight Saturday has been placed on desk duty while his agency investigates the incident. D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier slammed the veteran detective: “Let me be very clear in stating that I believe the actions of the officer were totally inappropriate!” Lanier said in a statement. “In no way should he have handled the situation in this manner.” Police did not identify the off-duty detective, but sources said the officer was Det. Michael Baylor, a longtime veteran of the department. About a 100 people gathered Saturday at 14th and U street streets for an online-organized snowball fight. People pelted passing vehicles, including the maroon Hummer driven by the off-duty detective, witnesses said.
