Owner convicted of leaving cat outside
A man who turned his domesticated cat loose outside a house he was building was convicted of animal cruelty, The Frederick News-Post reported.
District Judge Oliver John Cejka Jr. found Gregory Moser, 30, of Middletown, had failed to provide Sparkles with adequate food, water, shelter or vet care when he left the white cat and two others on the grounds of a home being built.

A neighbor and veterinarian said the temperatures had dropped below freezing, Sparkles could not walk and had dropped to four pounds.
Sparkles was treated and given to a family.
Body found in road
Montgomery County police are investigating the suspicious death of a man whose body was found in Wheaton shortly after midnight Wednesday. The body was found in the road by a motorist driving in the 2500 block of Newton Street. The cause and manner of death has not been determined. The victim was identified as Samuel D. Chacon, 34, of New Carrollton. Anyone with information on the case can call detectives at (240) 773-5070.
Man charged with killing man who tried to rob him
A D.C. man has been charged in the shooting death of a man who was trying to rob him of drugs and money outside a Charles County restaurant. Charles County sheriff’s officers arrested Eugene Abebe Jackson, 29, and charged him with first-degree murder. Authorities said Victor S. Taylor, 24, tried to rob Jackson in the parking lot of Mattawoman Seafood on Nov. 7 when Jackson pulled a gun and shot Taylor. Another man sitting in a parked car was hit and wounded by a stray round.
Police: Man unarmed in police shooting
Investigators did not find a weapon in the car of a man who was shot by police in the Mount Vernon area last week. Two of the three officers involved in the incident have returned to work. A third officer will remain on administrative leave and is expected to return to work next week, Fairfax County police said. The victim was identified as David A. Masters, 52, of Fredericksburg. Police said they tried to pull Masters over after they responded to theft of a business in the 8800 block of Richmond Highway.
