Arlington County homicide-free for two years

Arlington County has gone two years without a homicide, police said, the first time that has happened since its police department was formed in 1940.

The county’s police chief, M. Douglas Scott, said Arlington reached the milestone due to good policing, medical care, prosecution and community cooperation.

The most recent homicide in Arlington took place March 14, 2010, when a 20-year-old was found with stab wounds lying on a sidewalk in the 2800 block of North Pershing Drive in the Lyon Park area.

In that case, Anner Rouben Hernandez-Estrada, 20, of Arlington, was charged with murder in the death of Cain Guevara-Estrada.
