A 17-year-old boy from Fairfax was charged with trying to kill a Prince William County police officer by pinning her with his car, police said.
The unnamed teen was arrested Friday after a citizen reported a suspicious man in Woodbridge, police said.
Thursday night in Woodbridge, the police officer attempted to pull over a driver she suspected of being drunk, police said. The driver, however, tried to flee but was eventually caught after he drove down a dead-end street. The officer got out of the car, only to have the driver ram the cruiser, pinning her between the car and door.
The officer has been released from the hospital and is expected to fully recover.
The incident set off a wide-reaching search that lasted more than 12 hours before the citizen’s tip led to the 17-year-old’s arrest. He is charged with attempted capital murder of a law enforcement officer and aggravated malicious wounding of a law enforcement officer. He’s also charged with grand larceny for stealing the car he used to attack the officer, police said.
