3 charged in Reston shooting death

Three people have been charged in connection with a fatal Reston shooting, but authorities believe the suspects have fled to Latin America.

Fairfax County police said 31-year-old Jose Santos Ponce Zuniga is charged with murder in the Dec. 12 killing of 34-year-old Colvin Morris. Morris, of Hybla Valley, was found slain on the 1500 block of Cameron Crescent Drive at about 4:15 p.m.

Two other men, 29-year-old Amilcar Noel Urbina Zelaya and 45-year-old Saul Pacheco Mejia, have been charged with conspiracy to distribute cocaine. Investigators believe the shooting was drug-related.

“We are very confident that this is a failed illegal drug transaction,” said Officer Bud Walker, a Fairfax police spokesman.

Walker said police were still investigating the exact relationships between the the four men and how they know each other, but believe all were at the scene of the fatal shooting. He said investigators don’t think there are any other suspects.

The three suspects are thought to have fled to Latin America. Walker said all three have ties to a variety of countries and it’s unknown where they are or whether they are traveling together.

“We’re looking at a lot of possibilities,” he said.
