Glenn Neff, 27, of Stuart, Fla., was taken into custody after a police officer saw his Jeep Cherokee in an isolated area of Cabin John Regional Park at about 8:30 p.m. Monday, said Lt. Lauryn McNeil, spokeswoman for the Maryland-National Capital Park Police.
Investigators found a “very large quantity” of fireworks in the Jeep, McNeil said. The vehicle was fitted with a turret and tubes from which the fireworks were slated to be deployed.
Neff told authorities that he planned to ignite the fireworks on the National Mall to draw attention to problems with the banking industry, police said. Neff also told police that he did not want to hurt anyone.
Neff was being held Tuesday in lieu of $2 million bond.
