Carbon monoxide poisoning kills one

One man was killed and eight people in the region were hospitalized for carbon monoxide poisoning after using generators in enclosed areas when their homes lost power during Hurricane Irene. Howard County police said 48-year-old Won Koo Sung was found dead in his Ellicott City home late Monday night. His wife and son were taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Four people in Fort Washington were also hospitalized Monday night, when one family member called 911 to report that another person in the home was unconscious, according to Prince George’s County fire and emergency services. Four adults were treated for carbon monoxide exposure.

Earlier Monday, two elderly people were treated for carbon monoxide poisoning after a relative found them disoriented and unresponsive in their Kensington home. – Emily Babay
