Prince William County police have charged a man with burglary after he allegedly unlawfully entered a tow lot to retrieve his own car this weekend.
Geoffrey Alan Todd, 30, of Martinsburg, W.Va., was being held Monday without bond in Prince William County, according to a release from the police department. His car had recently been towed and taken to New Dominion Towing in Woodbridge, police said, and Todd arrived at the company’s lot looking for staff members there.
The company was “unoccupied,” police said, and Todd entered the lot, found his car in a garage and opened the garage bay door. Then he simply drove off, police said.
New Dominion staff reported the incident at 9:43 p.m., and police issued a warrant for Todd’s arrest. Todd later turned himself in, police said.
He is charged with burglary and defrauding a garage keeper and will appear in court in September.
