A former Marine pleaded guilty Thursday to firing shots at the Pentagon and other military facilities in Northern Virginia.
In entering the plea at federal court in Alexandria, Yonathan Melaku agreed to a prison sentence of 25 years and to pay restitution for the victims’ losses that total about $111,000.
As part of his plea agreement, Melaku admitted to attacking the Pentagon, the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle, a Marine Corps recruiting station in Chantilly and a Woodbridge Coast Guard recruiting center between October and November 2010.
No one was injured in the shootings.
Melaku, of Alexandria, was detained when he was found at Arlington National Cemetery in the middle of the night in June 2011. He intended to desecrate and injure grave markers at the cemetery, according to the statement of facts in his plea agreement.
