Crime History: Serial killer Ted Bundy is born

On this day, Nov. 24, in 1946, serial killer Ted Bundy was born in Burlington, Vt. During the 1970s, Bundy — born Theodore Robert Cowell — would rape and murder dozens of women, becoming one of the most notorious criminals of the late 20th century. He confessed to 30 slayings, though the actual number could be higher.

Bundy typically lured his young, female victims by feigning a disability or injury and asking for help in a public place, then assaulting them when they got to a more secluded area. He often targeted college campuses in Washington state, Utah, Colorado and Florida.

Bundy was sentenced to death after a Florida trial and died in the electric chair in January 1989.
