The strangler left his fingerprints on Shannon Marie Weaver’s neck in 1990, but Arlington police have yet to match the prints to a suspect.
Weaver was 23 years old U.S. Navy employee when her boyfriend found her dead in her bedroom around 10:30 p.m., Nov. 30, 1990. Her infant twin sons, unattended in a nearby crib, were unharmed, Arlington police said.
Weaver worked at the U.S. Naval Security Station in D.C. about 10 miles from her apartment in the 1400 block of S. 28th Street in South Arlington.
It was not the safest of neighborhoods back then, but police said there was no apparent force into Weaver’s apartment or bedroom.
Weaver was not married. Her boyfriend was investigated, but his fingerprints did not match those of the killer, police said.
Other than the strangulation, there were no other injuries to Weaver’s body and little evidence at the crime scene, police said.
Arlington police have featured Weaver’s case on its website in hopes that someone will volunteer a tip. Maybe someone who previously abstained from giving police information will come forward years later because their life situation has changed, and they are no longer close to potential suspects, police said.
The Þngerprints left on Weaver’s body have been entered into in a database so that if the killer gets arrested sometime in the future for an unrelated offense, the print can be matched to the evidence in that database, police said.
Until then, Arlington police are hoping someone comes forward with information that may lead to Weaver’s killer.
