Man gets life sentence in Loudoun attack

A Loudoun County judge sentenced a man to life in prison plus 40 years for committing a violent attack on a couple going for a morning walk in 2009, according to court records.

Jaime Ayala, 19, pleaded guilty earlier this year in the March 2009 killing of 57-year-old William Bennett and the assault on his wife, Cynthia Bennett.

The couple was assaulted as they walked along Riverside Parkway in Lansdowne.

Darwin G. Bowman is charged with capital murder in the case. Another teen is believed to have been involved, but has not been charged.

Teen wanted in toddler’s shooting

An arrest warrant has been issued in the shooting of a toddler in Glenarden.

Prince George’s County police initially named 18-year-old Deven Angel Matos as a “person of interest” after a nearly 2-year-old boy was struck by a stray bullet Saturday. Investigators have obtained an arrest warrant charging him with attempted second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault and reckless endangerment.

Police said Matos and another man got into a gunfight in the 3000 block of Brightseat Road. A bullet struck the boy while he was in the arms of his mother. The boy remains in critical but stable condition.
