Woman dies after Rockville traffic crash

An Olney woman died on the way to the hospital after a Wednesday morning traffic accident in Rockville.

Montgomery County police said 61-year-old Patricia Greer Parks was out of her vehicle and walking when officers arrived at the intersection of Rockville Pike and Old Georgetown Road, where the crash happened at about 7:35 a.m.

Police said Parks’ 2000 Chrysler Sebring was traveling behind a 2005 Ford Taurus on Rockville Pike and struck the Taurus when it was slowing down.

While officers were talking with the two drivers, Parks began complaining of pain and was taken to a hospital in an ambulance. She lost consciousness in the ambulance and was pronounced dead at the hospital, authorities said.

Officer Rebecca Innocenti, a police spokeswoman, said she didn’t know what type of pain Parks was suffering.

The Taurus driver, 41-year-old Ellen Gidharry, of Rockville, was taken to a hospital for observation, Innocenti said.
