8 hurt in Metrobus crash

A crash involving a Metrobus and a car in Silver Spring sent eight people to the hospital with “non-life-threatening injuries,” according to Montgomery County police. The crash happened around 4 p.m. on Randolph Road near Sherwood Forest Road, police said, but they could provide no further details.

Shootout involves off-duty cop

Prince George’s County Police said they’re investigating an incident in which an off-duty officer exchanged gunfire with a man who tried to rob him. Around 12:30 a.m. Thursday, a man with a gun tried to rob the officer on the 8500 block of Greenbelt Road, police said.

The culprit shot at the officer and the officer fired back, police said. The culprit fled and could not be found. The officer was not injured. Police did not know whether the other man had been shot.

Cops: Man fires gun in road rage

A 47-year-old Silver Spring man was charged with assault with intent to commit murder during a road rage incident.

U.S. Park Police said two men got into an argument Sunday at a stop sign at Powder Mill Road west of the Baltimore-Washington Parkway. The suspect got out of his vehicle and banged on the other car’s window, while the driver called 911.

The two went their separate ways and then the suspect followed the other car, pulled out a handgun and fired at the other driver, police said. On the recorded police line, two shots can be heard, police said.

The gunfire did not strike the victim or the car.

Charge dropped in Thirsty Turtle knifing

Prosecutors have dropped an attempted-murder charge against a man accused of cutting three University of Maryland students in a fight at the Thirsty Turtle in College Park last month. Prosecutors said they have found surveillance video that shows Leonardo Alonso Ramos, 21, of Kensington, was acting in self-defense.
