UPDATE, 6:01 p.m.: Fairfax County police said Schwab is believed to have robbed a second bank, this time the BB&T branch located at 8432 Old Keene Mill Road in the Springfield area at about 1 p.m. Tuesday.
ORIGINAL POST: A woman on the run after allegedly robbing a Manassas bank has also been identified as a suspect in an armed Fairfax County carjacking, police said Tuesday.
Fairfax County police said 26-year-old Stephanie Schwab is charged with carjacking for the Saturday incident and a warrant has been issued for her arrest.
Police allege that Schwab approached a 59-year-old woman in the Neiman Marcus parking lot at the Tysons Corner Center at about 1:30 p.m. and claimed that she had run out of gas and needed a ride to a gas station.
The woman let Schwab into her vehicle. Schwab then pulled out a knife and demanded that the woman get out of the car, police said. The woman was left near Old Courthouse Road and Route 123 in Tysons Corner. The woman was not injured.
On Monday, Prince William County police named Schwab as the suspect in a Friday hold-up at the Virginia Commerce Bank located at 10830 Balls Ford Road in Manassas.
In that incident, police say Schwab entered the bank at about 9:15 a.m., implied she was carrying a handgun and demanded money. She fled from the bank on foot after obtaining cash. Police didn’t disclose how much money she obtained.
Fairfax police would not say how Schwab was identified in the carjacking case or linked to the bank robbery. Lucy Caldwell, a police spokeswoman, would only say that “detectives did work closely with Prince William County.”
Schwab is from the Manassas area, but Caldwell said she could be anywhere in the region.
She is described as white, about 5 feet 3 inches tall and about 130 pounds. She has blonde hair and green eyes.
The carjacking victim’s vehicle, a 2003 silver Acura with the Virginia license plate XEK8095, has not been recovered.
