A 20-year-old woman was found dead in a Laurel housefire.

At about 3:30 p.m. Monday, firefighters responded to a one-story home in the 6700 block of Brooklyn Bridge Road and found smoke and fire coming from the basement, Prince George’s County fire spokesman Mark Brady said. After knocking out the blaze, firefighters found a woman dead in the basement, he said.

Fire investigators had not determined the cause, Brady said.

Twins admit to bribery

Twin brothers from the District pleaded guilty to trying to bribe D.C. police officers into getting a felony drug case dropped against one of the brothers, according to charging documents.

Larry and Garry Moody, both 39, face up to 15 years in prison at their sentencing scheduled for Jan. 11, 2011. Larry Moody also pleaded guilty to drug charges and faces an additional 40 years.

According to court documents, Larry Moody was arrested in February after undercover police said they caught him selling heroin and marijuana near Cesar Chavez Charter School. Garry Moody contacted two D.C. police officers and offered cash if they could help get the drug charges dismissed. The officers contacted the FBI, then participated in an undercover sting. Garry Moody met with one of the officers at a restaurant in Northwest Washington and handed the officer $8,000 in cash to fix the case.
