Former Alabama Trump campaign co-chair charged with sexual abuse


A former Alabama co-chair of the 2016 Trump campaign has been charged with sexual abuse, according to police.

Perry Oliver Hooper Jr., 67, from Alabama, was charged with first-degree sexual abuse on Tuesday, Montgomery police Capt. Saba Coleman confirmed to the Washington Examiner.

The alleged incident took place on Aug. 16, Coleman said, on the 100 block of Commerce Street — the location of a Hampton’s Inn & Suites. According to the court documents obtained by WSFA 12 News, Hooper Jr. was leaving a business on Montgomery’s Commerce Street around 8 p.m. when he allegedly grabbed the victim by the breasts and waist, then kissed her neck before she could break free.

Hooper is also a former Alabama state representative who served from 1984 until 2003.

The former campaign co-chair is being held at the Montgomery County Detention Facility with bail set at $15,000.
