A woman in Silver Spring fought off a man who tried to rape her, Montgomery County police said.
Around 8 p.m. Wednesday, the 26-year-old woman was approached from behind and pushed down a hill near the Spring Street Bridge. The assailant struck her with a bottle, but she grabbed grab it from him and struck him back. She was able to break free and screamed as she ran. Two Montgomery County sheriff’s deputies saw a man who matched the description. William Green, 24, of Silver Spring, was charged with attempted first-degree rape, attempted armed robbery, and first-degree assault.
