A Fairfax County police officer has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman he was dating in 2009.
A 42-year-old woman reported that James Summers came to her Manassas home and sexually assaulted her sometime during September or October 2009, according to Prince William County police. The two were in a relationship during that time, police said.
Summers, 55, of Burke, is a patrol officer with the Fairfax County police. He is assigned to the Reston station and has worked for the agency for five years, said Lucy Caldwell, a Fairfax police spokeswoman.
The woman reported the incident to authorities earlier this month, said Officer Jonathan Perok, a Prince William police spokesman.
Summers is charged with forcible sodomy. Perok would not provide further details about the incident.
Summers was taken into custody on Tuesday and is being held without bond. His next court hearing is scheduled for July 18.
Perok said he did not believe there were any other reports of violence between Summers and the woman.
