Fairfax animal control inundated by cats, kittens

An extremely large number of cats and kittens are being brought into the Fairfax County Animal Shelter, and police are seeking help to save the animals’ lives while keeping the shelter from being overwhelmed.

Animal control officers are asking the public to spay or neuter their cats, provide foster care for cats and refrain from picking up stray cats that may actually be finding their way home.

If you are thinking about surrendering an adult cat or kitten(s) to the shelter, consider keeping it through the summer months, until the volume of cats and kittens entering shelters and rescue centers decreases, police said.

Consider finding homes through friends, family, neighbors or co-workers. Sick or injured cats may still be referred by phone to animal control at 703-691-2131.
