No trace of D.C. teen missing since 2006

A 15-year-old girl from D.C. went missing more than four years ago, and authorities say the teenager has left behind no clues about why she disappeared.

Amanda Patricia Garey was reported missing from her home in the District on Aug. 6, 2006. Since then, authorities trying to find her have had no leads about where she might have gone. Amanda, who would now be age 19, had run away several times in the past, said Melinda Stevens, director of the missing-children division at the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. In those cases, Stevens said, Amanda stayed in the area. But now, investigators don’t know whether she has remained local or traveled elsewhere.

“We just don’t have any idea what may have happened,” Stevens said.

Stevens said Amanda has not been in contact with any family members since she disappeared and she has not shown up in any public database.

Amanda sometimes goes by the nickname “Alize.”

At the time she went missing, she had severe acne on her face and a scar on her right hand, according to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System. The clothing she was wearing when she left home is unknown.

Amanda is biracial. She is white and black, according to NCMEC. When she disappeared, she was described as about 5 feet 8 inches tall and 155 pounds. She has black hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information about her disappearance is asked to call the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at 800-THE-LOST (843-5678) or the Metropolitan Police Department at 202-727-9099.
