Girl dies from injuries in crash that killed mother, sister

A 7-year-old girl has died from injuries she suffered in a Fairfax County crash that killed her mother and sister. The incident occurred about 10:50 p.m. Tuesday on Lee Highway near Jermantown Road. Authorities said a 2001 Honda Civic traveling east on Lee Highway was speeding, sideswiped a vehicle, hit a median and collided with a Honda Odyssey. The Civic then struck another median, traveled 120 feet and came to a stop, police spokesman Sgt. Joe Johnson said. The woman driving the Civic, 27-year-old Dejon L’Air Williams of Cross Junction, and one of her daughters, 5-year-old Faith Williams, died Tuesday. Victoria Williams, 7, was taken to a hospital in critical condition and died late Wednesday or early Thursday, police said. The Odyssey’s driver, 38-year-old Hamidullah Nabizada, was hospitalized in critical condition.

Man slain in Silver Spring

Montgomery County police are investigating the death of a 34-year-old man found slain in his Silver Spring apartment. Police said officers went to an apartment on the 1100 block of East-West Highway at about 4:50 p.m. Wednesday, after family members reported they couldn’t get in touch with Eric Somuah. Somuah had suffered at least one gunshot wound, authorities said. Police said a medical examiner will conduct an autopsy, but the death is being investigated as a homicide.

38 years for home invasion

A District man has been sentenced to nearly 38 years in prison for a March 2011 home invasion in which he struck two men and a woman with a crowbar. On March 20, 2011, 42-year-old Vernon Bunch broke into an apartment on the 2700 block of Jasper Street SE, repeatedly struck the victims with a metal crowbar, and took a cellphone and about $60, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for D.C.
