Officer being charged in deadly dog park shooting
Anne Arundel County prosecutors will charge a civilian Army police officer with two misdemeanors in the fatal shooting of a Siberian husky in a Severn dog park. Police had considered the case closed, until news of the shooting prompted County Executive John Leopold to call for a full police investigation. Keith Shepherd, 32, of Severn will be charged with animal cruelty and discharging a firearm near an occupied building. Shepherd’s attorney has said the husky, named Bear-Bear, attacked the officer’s dog.
Boy fatally shot in D.C.
A 16-year-old boy was shot and killed in Southeast Washington early Wednesday. The victim was identified as Anthony Barnes, of Capitol Heights. Shorty before 1 a.m., police responded to a report of a shooting on the 2100 block of Fairlawn Avenue SE, and found the teenager suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.
2 hurt in MontCo Fair ride
A boy and a ride operator were injured in an accident on a swing ride at the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair. A child on the swing ride the Vertigo hit a fence and knocked down a ride operator, video shot by WTTG-TV shows. Martin Svrcek, the fair’s executive director, told the television station that the ride operator was alert when he was taken to a hospital. The boy was treated for injuries to his foot. Both have been released from the hospital.
Mechanicsville man charged with infant abuse
A Mechanicsville man has been charged with injuring a 7-month-old girl, St. Mary’s County authorities said. Officials received a report Friday after the girl was hospitalized Friday with life-threatening injuries.
