New evidence leads to suspect in child rape case

U.S. marshals are on the hunt for a D.C. man accused of raping a 12-year-old girl after he and another person talked the girl into getting into their car.

Authorities said 45-year-old Carlton Warren convinced the girl to go for a drive, then provided the girl marijuana and alcohol. While she was under the influence, Warren took advantage and raped her, marshals said.

“It’s despicable. [To] manipulate an innocent child then mentally scar her for life, there is no place in our free society for people like Warren,” said Deputy U.S. Marshal J.P. Ohba. “We need him off the streets and behind bars, where he belongs.”

Warren is wanted in the District on a charge of first-degree child sex abuse. The attack took place several years ago, but police said they have new evidence that leads to Warren.

Marshals say they are not providing additional information, including the time and place of the incident, to protect the identity of the victim.

Warren is described as a black male standing 5-foot-9, weighing 200 pounds and balding. Warren’s last known residence was in Northwest Washington, but he is originally from Southeast and still has family ties to the neighborhood.

Warren has a criminal record in both D.C. and Northern Virginia, including a prior arrest for assault and multiple possession of marijuana charges.

Warren has been listed as possibly armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information regarding Warren is urged to call the U.S. Marshals Service at 301-489-1717 or 800-336-0102.

The Washington Examiner features a “Most Wanted” fugitive each Thursday. Information provided by readers of The Examiner has helped lead to the arrest of at least 20 fugitives.

The Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, run by the U.S. Marshals Service, is comprised of 30 federal, state and local agencies from Baltimore to Norfolk. The unit has captured more than 29,000 wanted fugitives since its creation in 2004.
